Children from Springdale Junior School counted their way to help Promise Dreams, as part of a numeracy day. Children brought in change to help as part of the Pennies for Promise Campaign. They sorted, counted, made the tallest stacks, measured the longest trail, divided and the children thoroughly enjoyed the day. It is certainly a new way for children to enjoy a new angle on learning mathematics, as part of the national curriculum. Several schools have taken on board this fun day.
Karen Bull, Deputy Headteacher from Springdale Junior commented, "The 'Pennies for Promise' day was initiated by the school council, who wanted to raise some money for a local charity. The children already organise events throughout the year for other charities and were keen to have a special day to focus on one particular charity. The school council members took part in our special assembly and decided to have a maths day which fitted in with our curriculum. The children have been very enthusiastic and have learnt a lot about organising and publicising events."
